If you’re not quite a coastal grandmother (and more like her free-spirited second cousin) you’ll love this refreshing take that really turns up the magic. Channel your inner little mermaid and follow these steps to build your own beach-themed dreamscape.
Step 1: Make a Scene
To set the scene, go for what’s scenic—literally! Like art for the table, our Summer Radiance Collection, complete with dinner plates, accent plates, chic mugs, and more, paints a picture of sunlit days, ocean breezes, and luminous golden hours with its gilded watercolor coastline motif. Mermaid’s choice for flatware is Imperial Caviar in gold. Its heft and texture make it special, like treasure pulled from a pirate’s chest. Finally, opt for champagne flutes or coupe glasses…because there’s always bubbles (and bubbly) under the sea.
Step 2: Bring in Texture
One of the key elements of any coastal table is texture—think seagrass baskets, fishing nets, and natural linen that reflects the heat of the sun. For our table, we matched a sand-colored tablecloth with woven chairs and chargers, then added muslin runners, lightly rumpled, to replicate the look of waves crashing on the beach. The napkins are scalloped like a seashell and bring a sense of breeziness to the table—perfect!
Step 3: Make a Natural Statement
A traditional floral bouquet won’t look at home here. Instead, opt for air plants, succulents, and grasses that could have been plucked off a sand dune. Instead of a vase, we used oversized seashells to house our natural statements, then sprinkled the table with sea creatures and ocean treasures including starfish, shells, and coral. Oyster-inspired macarons (complete with edible pearls) were our irresistible final touch.
